Mental Health First Aid is a public education program designed to introduce participants to the risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, build understanding of their impact, and provide an overview of common support options. This 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to provide initial assistance in a mental health crisis and connect individuals to appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help resources. The program also covers the common risk factors and warning signs associated with specific types of illnesses, such as anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia.
