About the event

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or is in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including ADHD and ODD), and eating disorders.

Please note that this is an In-Person 1-day, 8-hr training. At the end of the training, each participant will receive a certification that is good for 3 years. Two 10-minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch will be provided. If you have experienced any COVID-19 symptoms or flu-like symptoms, we encourage you to register for our Virtual training or return to attend the in-person training at a future date. If you have any questions, please contact us at (619) 543-0412 ext. 113, 114 or 121.
